If you are iTunes fan, this is a small project for you:

iTunes is a great music player and organizer. Unfortunately iTunes is made to only synchronize with iPods. Not everyone own an iPod, though Apple certainly would have loved that. How great would it not be if I could synchronize my non-iPod MP3 player, my Playstation Portable and my Axim with my iTunes playlist? Enter: iTunes Agent!

iTunes Agent is a small application resting in your system tray constantly looking for new MP3 players and other music capable devices connecting to your system. When a device it recognizes is connected to the system, it will create a playlist for the device in iTunes and it will synchronize that list with tracks on your device.

You may then modify this list, add and remove tracks, before you tell the iTunes Agent to synchronize the list with your player.

Sounds interesting? Head over HERE to download the application, or check out some screenshots to see what it’s all about.

iTunes Agent requires .Net Framework 2.0 Final. Download from here.

On the Axim side, you would need another utility such Soltice Card Export II to make the Storage cards to be recognized as mass storage USB drives to your PC. (And this is the only cost item to you $15, trial is available however)

Here are some screenshots from iTunes Agent.

Right mouse on the iTunes icon, select preference and make sure you have the below settings:

The Axim storage card can be shown as Generic Player, or you can create an entry called Axim

On the Axim storage card, a directory must be created at root level with the name ITAGENERIC or you can select your own dummy directory and give it a name, e.g Axim, don’t forget to put a D: in front, of the Rec pattern box (this is not your drive letter, D stands for directory). And of course select a directory to store your files (on your Axim storage card)

Once, you connect via USB your Axim with mass storage mode (using Card Export) and you launch iTunes Agent…iTunes wiill launch and a playlist (either Generic Player or Axim). Just browse your audio/video contents, select them, right mouse click and select add to playlist–Axim or Generic Player.

Right mouse click on the iTunes Agent (on the system tray) and select Sync…Voila…

All the files belong to Axim playlist will be copied to your Axim.

Thank you Jason, you might want to get the free utility MobSync (Google it!), which allows you to sync between iTunes folder on your PC to your Axim Storage card. You can’t however have the playlist. Mobsync just sync the whole folder/subfolder..

I’m trying to set this up. When I run the iTunes Agent Preference, I don’t see a Rec. pattern box.

As someone more technically challenged, I just cant figure this out. Could anyone help me with any of the following problems:
    1. I am unable to add any songs onto the “Axim” folder which is now present on iTunes.
    2. When I connect my axim to the computer and try to open iTunes agent, it says that “there are no connected devices to synchronize”
    3. I am not sure how I am to ‘create a directory at root level on the Axim storage card with the name ITAGENERIC.’ Is that just a folder?
Anyone who has gotten this to work and can offer some advice would be appreciated!

iTunes only sees your Axim if it is mounted as an USB drive. You need the Soltice card Export II software, mentioned in the post.

Hi all, I’m using a HTC or Dopod 838Pro as they called it in Singapore. May I ask what do I type in the iTunes Agent Preference folder when i click on “NEW”, “Music Folder” and “Recognize by folder/file”

Thanks for any info. This would be a great tool if I can get it to work

Does this convert the m4a files to mp3 automatically before syncing them? or do I have to make all my files in iTunes mp3?

I would love if you could get this for mac as there is no program, that I am aware of, that does so currently. If anyone knows of a program for mac that does the same thing please tell me.

Does anyone know how to do this for a phone that doesn’t have “mass storage” mode? I need to do this over bluetooth instead of USB. I remember reading I could use FTP to assign a drive letter, but can’t find that article again.

[...] 2-Use a RSS aggregator (e.g. iTunes, Juice, etc.) on your PC then use an utility such MobSync or iTunes Agent to sync the Podcasts to your WM device storage card over ActiveSync. This is my method of choice. Mobsync launches automatically when ActiveSync starts and constantly monitor for bi-directional synchronization [...]
