- Free Utility: CABviaActiveSync

There are 2 ways that software comes to be installed on your WM device:

  1. .Exe package that can be launched on your PC with ActiveSync on, the install proceeds to your connected WM device. By doing this, ActiveSync keeps the install information for future update, re-install, un-install, etc.
  2. .Cab file, you have to copy this .cab file to your WM device, browse to it on your device , tap on it to start the install. Depending the version, the .Cab file might or might not be deleted automatically, so you need to delete it manually to save space and you also have to save it somewhere for future install. Since ActiveSync is not involved here…There is no trace…on your PC

In case, you install a number of software on several mobile device, the 2nd method seems to involve several tidious steps.

Unfortunately, sometime you have no control about the format of the software you receive. That where CABviaActiveSync comes in:

How does it work?

  • CvAS installs on your desktop PC, and adds a right-click context menu for CAB files
  • When you click the menu, the CAB is automatically parsed, copied to your ActiveSync directory, and a regular ActiveSync install is initiated
  • When the install is complete, the CAB file stays in the ActiveSync directory, meaning you can un/reinstall in the future, without having to archive the CAB away somewhere.
