- Rant: My Headache with Mail2Web Exchange Hosting!

1 August, 2006 Posted by As Tips,Windows Mobile (7) Comment

I have been using Mail2Web.com as my Exchange Hosting for the last few months. Beside few glitches such OWL does not support Firefox – I have to use the basic format. OWL runs on IE7 but I can not forward my mail, etc..I kept using it due to the convenience when I have several devices to sync all my PIM information in parallel and I don’t need ActiveSync to sync between them.

Until last week, all over sudden, I could not log in to my accounts, And the support told me my account has been closed by my own request few minutes earlier, which was completely false!

“Your “xxxxx” account was closed on 7/28/2006. The request was
received from your control panel on 7/27/2006. This is why you can
login anymore.”

At that time, we suffered a heatwave across the country and several IT facilities had lots of power issues. I understood and did not make a big deal out of it. Of course all my PIM information was lost on Mail2Web server. I, then restored a backup on my Axim and re-populate my Mail2Web account after they let me activate again.

3 days later, Mail2Web seemed to find the issue and decided on its own to restore all my lost data. After the Sync, I found all the duplicates and spent a great deal of time to clean up the mess.

Guess what, this morning Aug,1 this problem happened again! And this is what Mail2web answers:

“Sorry, all that is shown is that the account was closed from the control panel. Unfortunately you will need to signup a new account from http://services.mail2web.com/Personal/EnhancedEmail/.”

“Sorry once the account was closed, all files related to this account were removed off the server

If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Regards,
Jim
Customer Support

http://myhosting.com

http://mail2web.com

http://softcom.biz”

And this ended there with no further explanation! I begged them to restore my account like the first time so, at least I can retrieve my data…The answer, again is NO all data are purged of the server…

They think that customer would do that purposely just for fun…And did not take seriously the fact that they host your data. Just conveniently say Mr. customer you closed your account (again, it is not true) and we no longer have your data, sorry, bye!

Why they did not ask for confirmation if there is a discontinue of service request? (perhaps, they don’t want me to tape the conversation like one guy did with AOL…)

I asked them to investigate to find out who sent that discontinue service request and from what IP address. Of course, they don’t know…

Today, I officially closed my Mail2Web.com experience. I will switch to 4Smartphone.com!

BEWARE!

Hmm, that’s pretty bad.

I’m on mail2web also, and so far haven’t experience anything like that.

Too bad.

Wow, that sounds awful. Very sorry to hear that Solsie – that is a huge hassle and is really not impressive / worrying to hear about Mail2Web …

Thanks Solsie … I was close to setting up an account with them. I host exchange here from my house but my ISP has been flaky lately, so I considered dropping it all and signing up for a free account from them. I guess I’ll hold up for now.

SolSie August 2, 2006

Just need to point out, I had a paid account, not a free one.
I am very disappointed since I have been posting evrywhere how great it is and encourage people to sign up for the free account to try and show how to set up on your mobile device…

As you know when you restore your PIM back to your WM device, ActiveSync now got all messed up, etc..It is truly a hassle…very disruptive to my business!

Out of curiosity … are you using spite or spb backup? I’ve done a couple restores from Spb backup and rarely had issues when I’ve restored my PIM data. Of course YMMV.

SolSie August 2, 2006

Yes, I have both SPB Backup and Sprite..The restore was OK, the issue is with ActiveSync and Outlook that have always sync problem with the new restore image (duplicate, sync problems, etc..)

That’s a scary experience. I just hope it doesn’t happen now that I’ve registered with their personal exchange service.
