Live Anywhere Microsoft’s new gaming platform

Microsoft is finally coming with their new Windows Mobile gaming solution which will be an extension of their massive Xbox Live online service. “Live Anywhere” will be a cross platform gaming service that will “excite everyone from the casual to the hardcore gamers” and reunite the mobile gamers with their desktop and Xbox 360 counterparts.

“Live Anywhere brings your Xbox Live Gamercard to your Windows Mobile device and -for the first time- puts serious mobile gaming on your handheld”

Whether you’re at your PC or rocking a mobile, you’ll be able to track your gamer tag, message friends, purchase content for that device or set it to download to another device, and of course compare rankings with your buddies on various gaming titles. In the name of getting more users, Microsoft is claiming to approach this from a “platform agnostic” angle, and after supporting the 360, Windows Vista and Windows Mobile, will move on to Java, S60 and possibly even Palm if they deem it worth their while.
Microsoft didn’t revealed pricing options, but Live Anywhere will reportedly be available for Windows Mobile, Java and BREW-based handsets. I expect the Live Anywhere client to debut sometime near the release of the Windows Vista operating system.
