Tip: Use iLauncher to launch your Favorite Radio/TV Stations

Listen to your favorite radio station around the world just use iLauncher.

Radio/TV Station on iLauncher Tab

  1. You can go to any of the below Web sites
    www.radio4pda.com
    http://www.mobidock.com/MobiMedia.aspx
    http://www.thestreamcenter.com/pda/

    And pick the stations you like, just right mouse click and copy the stream (e.g.mms://wmlive.vitalstreamcdn.com/live_eonwmss_
    vitalstream_com_regent-kqpt-fm-fast)

  2. Open your Notepad application on your PC, copy and paste the below string

    <ASX VERSION=”3.0″>
    <entry>
    <title></title>
    <ref href=”mms://wmlive.vitalstreamcdn.com/live_eonwmss_
    vitalstream_com_regent-kqpt-fm-fast    ” />
    </entry>
    </ASX>

    You see, I copied the mms stream (picked from the step-1) after the href=”… . Save the file as .txt (e.g. Station-1.txt). Once saved, rename it to Statio-1.asx

  3. Copy your .asx file(s) to a directory on your Storage card (e.g. \My SD Card\My Radio Stations\Station-1.asx, etc.) you can repeat from step 1-2 for additional stations

  4. On your WM device, you create optionally a new TAB under iLauncher; add the shortcuts pointing to all the .asx files you created in step-3 – Of course you can create few 32×32 .png or .tga images that can be used as icons to assign to the shortcuts you created.
  5. Voila, now just bring up the iLauncher Tab, tab on the icon of your favorite radio/TV, Windowns Media Player will launch and starts streaming.. (of course you need to be connected! you already knew that, didn’t you?)

Again, this is another application for the versatile iLauncher!

For your convenience, I prepared 2 stations in the zip files below (each has 1 .asx file and 1 icon image)

This post reminds me that the stream link may not necessarily point to a specific file with a file extension (e.g. “mms://site.com/file.wma”). I’ll have to modify PlaylistMgr slightly to allow such entry then.

The other method to customise the icon is to modify the contents of the shortcut (LNK file). This will also make the shortcuts display the chosen icon in any file explorer or launcher plug-in.

One simple way to customise shortcut icon is to use a shortcut manager software like Shortcut Creator. But the shortcut icon has to come from a EXE/DLL/CPL resource file though.

But it looks like iLauncher provides the most flexibility for customising icon display on the today screen. PNG and TGA support makes it simple and has transparency support. In comparison, cLaunch only supports BMP files and EXE/DLL/CPL resource files.
