Widcomm Bluetooth Stack for the HTC Wizard Available!

The Wizard (AKA  i-mate K-Jam, T-Mobile MDA Vario, Qtek 9100, MDA Vario, XDA mini S, SPV M3000, VPA Compact II, Dopod 838) comes with the Microsoft Bluetooth stack, which lacks of functionality and audio quality. The Widcomm replacement stack has just been successfully test and available for download at Forum-XDA Developers.

The Widcomm BT stack is also available for the HTC-TyTn HERE!

You forgot to mention the Cingular 8125, which is of the Wizard family.

Thank you Steve!

SolSie, thanks for putting together the how to on getting the Widcomm stack on to the Axim. I have the HTC Wizard and follow your steps combined with those from the forum.xda-developer.com site, but I can’t seem to get Bluetooth Dialup Networking showing as an available service on my HTC Wizard. Any thoughts? I’m using the summer 06 ROM update from T-Mobile USA. Do I need to use another AKU ROM?

SolSie January 5, 2007

Robert,
Sorry, I no longer have the Widcomm stack. But as I remember, you should see in BT management – when you create new connection something like: Use your phone as modem. You didn’t see that?

Robert Reinhardt January 5, 2007

In the BT Manager, I can see “Connect to Internet via Phone”, but that doesn’t enable the HTC as a phone–it just looks for another BT device that has DUN. To be clear, I’m using the Widcomm stack on my HTC Wizard (T-Mobile MDA) which is a phone/PDA.

Robert, Could you clarify! you want to use the HTC Wizard as dial up modem for your PC/Laptop right?

Robert Reinhardt January 6, 2007

Yes, exactly. And when I try to discover services on my HTC from my laptop, I don’t see dialup networking. Also, I have an Acura that can’t use a PAN connection for the Internet–it needs to see a DUN service in order to connect to the Internet via a phone. If I look at the Windows registry on my HTC, I don’t see Dialup Networking listed in the Widcomm\BTConfig\Services keys either. :(

I guess, you can see the HTC but there is no DUN profile? Perhaps folks at XDA-Developer forms can better assist you.

Thanks for your replies, SolSie. I restored a backup of my old HTC Wizard system setup (T-Mobile default for MS Bluetooth Stack) in the meantime. The problem I’m trying to fix is that my HTC fails to connect properly with my new Acura RDX’s data connection to send car diagnostic messages/codes to and from the Acura servers. I’m nearly certain it’s a problem with the MS Bluetooth Stack and it’s handling of PPP connections with the BT DUN profile. I found a wiki page on another Nokia phone that listed a “power user” fix for a Samsung Windows Mobile-based phone, indicating the setting of a “receive all” parameter, but with no instructions on where to find that setting. I consider myself pretty tech savvy (I write computer books for a living, see http://www.flashsupport.com) and play with Flash Player-enabled device apps all the time, but this has been pretty nerve racking. Acura, to their defense, only lists partial support for the HTC Wizard–for regular handsfree stuff, it works just fine. It’s just the data connection that doesn’t work.
