Tip: Use iTunes Front-end for Podcasts to Feed to Zune
Yesterday, I listened to the latest TWIT Podcast, the special guess was the “Podfather” Adams Curry who mentioned something very upsetting: Adams went to Microsoft long before he met with Apple to introduce the Podcast architecture and was hoping Microsoft would embrace it. They turned it down. Later he went to see Apple and you know the rest of the story…
You don’t have to wait Microsoft to add podcast support (there was slim hope! that they will..), wait no longer: You can use iTunes as a solution. LifeHacker posted a little tip:
Just install iTunes and then subscribe to or download all the podcasts you want (audio and video alike). By default, iTunes saves them in your My Music folder. Also by default, the Zune software monitors that folder for audio and video files. Thus, you should be able to find the newly downloaded podcasts in its Recently Added section. Toss ‘em in a playlist and presto: They’re on their way to your Zune. Just be prepared to wait if you download any video podcasts, as the Zune software has to convert them to WMV format. (huh.. I thought Zune can support MP4 and H.264?)
Needless to say, you could use any podcast-fetching software to accomplish the same thing, but it’s hard to beat iTunes’ selection and simplicity. It’s even better than FeedYourZune
