ASUS W5fe SideShow Review
SideShow is one of the most intriguing features found in Microsoft Windows Vista because it lets any laptop manufacturer add a secondary display on the lid for you to get quick access to your e-mail, photos, calendar information, and music files as long as you access to its 1GB flash drive. The e-mail, calendar or access to media file require to wake up the hard drive from hibernate mode.
From my perspective, this is equivalent to having a WM device that is hard-wired to a lid of an laptop and have ActiveSync (or its counterpart on Vista) connected permanently.
PCMag offers an in depth look at this feature on the ASUS W5fe laptop with the focus on Vista Sideshow. The reviewer Cisco Cheng finds that “it’s one less cover to flip open, one less button to press, and plenty of time saved when you’re on the move and you need information fast†but is also quick to highlight some of the inevitable compromises you’ll have to make.
