GigaByte will be the first company to have a DVB-T and DVB-H compatible phone (both are terrestrial digital TV broadcasting). DVB-H (H like Handheld) was designed for mobile devices. Both DVB standards are competing with Qualcomm’s MediaFLOW that seems to gain more popularity stateside.

DVB-T stands for Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial and it is the DVB European consortium standard for the broadcast transmission of digital terrestrial television. This system transmits a compressed digital audio/video stream, using OFDM modulation with concatenated channel coding (i.e. COFDM). The adopted source coding methods are MPEG-2 and, more recently, H.264.

DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) is a technical specification for bringing broadcast services to handheld receivers. DVB-H was formally adopted as ETSI standard EN 302 304 in November 2004. The DVB-H specification (EN 302 304) can be downloaded from the DVB-H Online website. The major competitor of this technology is Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB)

According to GearFuse, which quotes Gigabyte, the device has enough battery for several hours of television on its 2.6” VGA display (5 hours with DVB-H and 3 hours with DVB-T). The GigaByte T600 will be on the market in Taiwan in April.
