Lunar New Year Celebration!
This is time to celebrate Lunar new year, the year of the Pig (Boar) . I join Ktvyeow (in his previous post) to wish all of our Asian Pacific readers prosperity and health.
If you were born between 01/31/1995 and 02/18/1996, 02/13/1983 and 02/01/1984, 01/27/1971 and 02/14/1972, 02/08/1959 and 01/27/1960, 01/22/1947 and 02/09/1948, 02/04/1935 and 01/23/1936 or 02/16/1923 and 02/04/1924, you were born during a year of the pig.
Although this lunar New Year is observed in the whole of East Asia influenced by Chinese civilization, each country in the region has institutionalized it in a way peculiar to that country by making it conform to its psyche and historico-geographical conditions.
In my area, there is a large community of Vietnamese called Little Saigon, where all the festivities are underway including several community events, Spring marketplaces, etc..
If flowers open on New Year’s Day it is believed to be a symbol of good luck
