The Future of DRM-free Music

Everyone who listens to music on their mp3 player, whether its an iPod or a Creative Zen have been asking for music stores to sell DRM-free music.  The problem is, the music labels and the RIAA refuse to take the fact that selling DRM free music might increase their music sales rather than reduce it.

Last year in December, EMI experimented with DRM-free music by selling a single from Norah Jones and a couple of tracks from Reliant K as DRM-free MP3 files on the Yahoo Music Store.  They must have been either really happy with results they got from the experiment or they have finally came to their senses as they will sell a substantial portion of its music catalog as DRM-free music files.  Expect to hear an announcement due soon.

However if this is just a rumour, all is not lost.  I’ve just came accross this beta version DRM-free music search engine.  I have not tried it out properly myself so I’ll hope I’ll get some feedback on it.  Check it out HERE.
