Melinda Doolittle’s live vocal performance of My Funny Valentine—-this very cut—-could be put onto a CD and would sell 500,00 copies (Gold) for sure. Randy Jackson knows this—-look at his face and listen to his voice when he talks.
I have been playing music for 30 years and I have never ever seen or felt all the ‘magic’ of a song, a voice, and an atmosphere come together like that all at once at one point in time.
I agree with Jeff. What a performance! I cannot imagine her doing better on the second take. I will buy her album when it comes out, no matter what she sings beyond this, and I have not bought a single American Idol contestant’s album yet. My mouth actually dropped open as she sang. So go Melinda Doolittle! You are a star!
