Hitachi took over IBM hard drive business few years ago, continues to crank out new drive technology with the latest 1 TB (1,000 GB) SATA 3.5″ hard drive.  Hitachi saying Deskstar 7K1000 shipments have reached “critical mass” this month, after starting out scarce in March. (Cost: $399)

1TB is still lot of capacity for home user; do not forget any hard drive will fail sooner or later. Make sure you have all of your eggs backed-up safely and regularly.
