WSJ’s Mossberg Video Review: Upstaging the iPhone
The highlight of the last CTIA’07 in Orlando, probably was the Samsung Upstage by Sprint. The Upstage is ”dual personality phone” acting as normal cellphone on one side and a MP3 player on other side.
In his video review, Walt Mossberg points out few common weaknesses with this kind of device, which is the short battery life (the Apple iPhone is struggling with the same issue too!) – Sprint/Samsung address this issue by providing a “Battery Wallet” as additional battery capacity but the downside is the wallet doubles the thickness of this device. Another issue is the phone can only store approx 20 songs from the get go. User might want to spend another $40 to get additional capacity on the MicroSD card.
Another buzz of the announcement was not the phone itself, but the new Sprint offering of .99 cents/song download (over the air on phone and on your home PC).
