How to Aggregate Youtube Videos with RSS and Play on WM Device

As we still can not find the way to stream YouTube video (http://m.youtube.com) directly to WM device. Therefore you can only manually download YouTube videos using http://keepvid.com to .flv format then playback with TCPMP as we described HERE.

But the nature of user generated video contents is so dynamic; the best way to catch the latest obviously would be using RSS feeds.

YouTube offers several RSS feeds for categorized groups of videos (such as recently uploaded, top viewed etc) as well as customized feeds for users and tags. To subscribe to categorized groups of videos, simply click on the orange ‘RSS’ button next to each feed. To create custom feeds, specify the tag or username you wish to subscribe in the URL as described below.

Tags: For example, if you wanted to create an RSS feed for the tag “iPhone” you would enter: feed://www.youtube.com/rss/tag/iPhone.rss

Users: feed://www.youtube.com/rss/user/[insert username here]/videos.rss
For example, if you wanted to create an RSS feed for the user “SolSie” you would enter: feed://www.youtube.com/rss/user/SolSie/videos.rss

Most Viewed Videos All Time: http://youtube.com/rss/global/top_viewed.rss

Top Rated Video: http://youtube.com/rss/global/top_rated.rss

More Youtube feeds can be found HERE!

Unfortunately, these feeds are designed for PC/ RSS Readers (Bloglines, NetVibes, Google Reader etc.). You can not aggregate the videos just by using your Podcast aggregator such Juice, the cross platform Podcast aggregator.

Fortunately, Hubdog developers are working on the latest beta version (June 14th) that you can download HERE.  this client program allows YouTube videos to be aggregated using RSS and stored automatically on the WM device as .flv format. Hubdog generates a playlist (.asx) that can be used to invoke TCPMP for playback.

In order to use Hubdog you have to register at their site, enter the channels (the RSS feeds from Youtube we mention above) you want to aggregate. Download the latest client on your WM device.

For your information: the playlist is generated and stored at \Storage Card\Program Files\Hubdog 2.0\Channel116927.asx

The default file association is Windows Media Player, so you might want to force .asx to be opened by TCPMP.

Hi!

The HTC Streaming Media app plays the YouTube RTSP:// streams perfectly. This app is built in to the WM6 ROM i’m running on my HTC Trinity but you can download it from here:
