Microsoft doesn’t know how to connect the dots..

We posted an article few days ago explaining how the consumer-targeted industry will be shaped with things to come. Sadly most of them, Microsoft already have had them but still don’t know how to package them together to get that “real” WOW factor…. Today Apple throws another punch with an elegant solution to address the consumer appetite YouTube streaming.

Let’s take a look that what Microsoft has:

  • Sync & Go for PocketPC which could have been the killer app for what has become the phenomenon of Podcast, Vidcast,  RSS Reader today…Microsoft decided to kill it.
  • A dominant Office suite that has been progressively threaten by the Web-based offerings (by Google and others)
  • Microsoft has an OS platform that runs on 95% of the worldwide personal computer
  • Internet Browser (IE) that runs on 90% on the total of browser (eclipsed by Firefox, Opera, Safari)
  • Mobile platform OS for cellphone, mobile device (UMPC, Win-Mo, Tablet OS)
  • Web centric services such Live, MSN, etc.
  • OS platform for Home Media
  • Platform for Game console (X360)
  • Several Market places to purchase contents (Play for sure; Zune Market place)
  • Portable Audio Player (Zune)
  • User generated video (Soapbox)
  • Home Server; Mediaroom, etc…

But with that impressive portfolio, there is absolutely no cohesion whether with its own products or with other people in trench products. The latest example is with YouTube streaming. Unless you have 3rd party software such HTC Media Streaming to work with the latest YouTube mobile streaming. There is no way that Windows Mobile can take advantage of this extremely popular trend while we are not even talking about Microsoft owned Soapbox, which is a complete stranger to Windows Mobile.
