Review SOTI Pocket Controller Pro V6.0

This is a piece of software that I have been using for the last 7 months (at which point it was still only version 5.07), and I have to say that it is one of my “Must Have” software. Basically it is a remote control for you PPC on the PC.

First off, download and install. Easy peasy! No problems at all. Once the software is on the PC & PPC all you need to do is drop your PPC in its cradle and when Active-Sync has done its thing, click the icon on your PC to activate Pocket Controller and you´re away. Could it be any easier? NO! And when it comes to easy, I know what I’m talking about!

The best thing with Pocket Controller Pro is that you can run your PPC from your PC. Once you´re hooked up you can run all your applications from your PC, using your keyboard and mouse just like on your PC (because its on your PC!). When you install new software on your PC there is no need to fiddle around with a stylus while your PPC is in its cradle, or trying to aim at a miniscule icon to activate a program. Just run Pocket Controller Pro and its as easy as working with your PC!

For the last 7 months I have been using Pocket Controller Pro v5.07, which has worked like a dream. Then I got the notification that there is an upgrade to v6.0. So, I quickly went and downloaded the newest version (a free upgrade to all that have bought the software in the last 10 months). At this point I have to say that I had a few problems getting the upgrade to run. But a quick mail to the support team got a very speedy reply and I was able to run the upgrade straight away. Thank you to the Support Team!!

On your PC screen you have a window with a very large, real-time view of your PPC screen. So far virtually every application on my Dell Axim works perfectly within Pocket Controller Pro. However, when playing a video the Pocket Controller Pro screen remains blank (though the video plays on the PPC).

The skinning element is a bit of fun, making it look like you have a giant PDA (in my case the Dell Axim) floating on your screen. But in a short while it gets to be a bit boring, and takes up too much space.

All-in-all, this is one program that I would rather not do without. I have my PPC in its cradle at the side of my PC whenever I am at the PC, which can make it very difficult for installing new software. But using Pocket Controller Pro makes life so much easier. It’s certainly worth the $35 it cost!
