Windows Mobile Customization…Microsoft is Doing it Too!

Customization with Windows Mobile has become a hobby for me (just browse our Themes & Skins forums if you didn’t know yet!). Several tools are available on the Web to easily enhance your device individuality.

Personally, no matter how slick my today/home screen is, I get bored after a while..When it hits me, I just switch to a new theme or (a forgotten old theme). This will get that flame back again.  Skinning on WM allows me to have an iPod, a HTC Touch, a iPhone or whatever I want on my old faithful Axim X51v without actually owning them.

Until recently only WM enthusiasts from LakeridgeSoftware forums or SBSH forums users would go extra miles to show off their latest creations. But recently we start seeing manufactures such HTC introducing their TouchFlo interface and Mobile carriers also added some customized interface to differentiate their brand. In this WM Team Blog, you find actually Microsoft is behind of these customization. The latest example is the custom interface on the latest T-Mobile Shadow.

Take a look at this animation "My Faves" Today/Hone Screen

  • myFaves/Clock - Displays your five myFaves when you have a supported SIM, otherwise it displays a clock

  • Notifications - Displays new e-mails, voicemail, missed calls, text messages, and MMS

  • Message Center – Lets you launch into your messaging accounts. Compose a text, e-mail, MMS, or Voice Note from the homescreen itself.

  • Appointments – Lists your appointments for today and tomorrow.

  • Internet – Browse various web sites

  • Music – Play and control Windows Media Player.  My personal favorite. Imagine seeing your album art in a big full screen image instead of in a tiny thumbnail!

  • My Photos – Browse through the photos on your device through your homescreen.

  • Settings – Access commonly used settings/apps – such as Profiles, Task Manager, and Wireless Manager

If you think your relationship with your WM device is "a journey, not the destination" and you have not tried to customize your device, you might have missed out lot of fun with Windows Mobile.

Personnally i don’t like it a lot. Look, the menu bar on the left side. it’s big, when they show a pitcure, it is little. i think that will be the same thing for all documents you would like to read/look ;)

This is just the frond-end interface, under the cover you have regular WM apps.

can you please tell me how to get that on my WM6 smart phone? Thank you so much!

Joe, this is a special customization from T-Mobile. I don’t think any skinner has made a similar theme yet.
