WMP11 Skin for VideoLAN VLC Player
Unlike Quicktime ot Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player is a light weight open source, cross-platform media client that supports the vast majority (almost) of media formats inculing DivX, XviD without the need for additional codecs and It can also be used as a streaming server, with extended features (video on demand, on the fly transcoding, …). One of the great features is that it supports skins that work across different platforms.
I really like the WMP11 from the skins page. This skin looks very close Windows Media Player 11. Below is the tutorial how-to
1-Launch VLC:
- Linux users: Launch VLC with the following command-line: vlc -I skins2
- Windows users: Launch VLC using the appropriate shortcut in the Start menu. You can also start VLC from command-line, in a DOS window.
2-If you don’t want to use the default skin, just download another one here. If you want to have it automatically detected, place it in the skins subfolder of your VLC installation:
- Windows users: Put it in C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\skins
- Linux users: Put it in ~/.vlc/skins2
3-In addition to the skins listed below, VLC supports all the Winamp2 and XMMS skins (.wsz files).
4-Once VLC is started with the skinned interface, you can use the CTRL+S shortcut to load the new one. Enjoy!
