Amazon Acquires Audible

Amazon has announced the acquisition of Audible, one of the biggest online providers of audio content, including audiobooks, radio and TV programme, and audio versions of magazines.

With the release of the Kindle, the acquisition makes completely sense. Soon, Kindle user can download not only books, RSS feeds, magazine, they will be able to download a vast collection audio contents as well.

I think, this is an Amazon answer to Steve Jobs, who recently made the below comments about the Amazon Kindle, the e-reader device.

“Amazon’s Kindle e-book reader will fail, Steve Jobs says, because Americans simply don’t read. From The New York Times: “It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”
