The WM Smartphone has brought things that we usually, can only do on the laptop to the palm of your hand. Furthermore, the instant on, instant on the Web capabilities are very desirable to mobile user. Unfortunately, due to its diminutive size, the screen is very small (QVGA 320×240 or less) to fully display all the application data or to provide a pleasant Web browsing experience. In addition the keyboard is small to be practical for note taking or data entry. More (video) after the jump!

At CES 2008, Celio introduced the Redfly Windows Mobile Companion.  When Celio’s device is connected to a Windows Mobile phone, either by Bluetooth or USB, any application on the smartphone is shown on the Mobile Companion’s 8-inch display without modification or synchronization. The user will then be able to interact with that application through a large keyboard and trackpad or mouse. The Redfly re-draw the screen from the original resolution into new resolution 800 x 480, the display will show more data as it has more real estate but the screen is not stretched.

There lots of skepticism about the success of this device due to the Palm Folio debacle, but the Redfly is actually very different from the Folio. Consider the Redfly as an extension to your Smartphone adding larger screen and a keyboard+touchpad. It does not run any other application beside the ones you have on your Smartphone.  The price however could be a determined factor of the adoption rate. The device will be priced at $500 and will be avilable next March.

Jason Dunn from PocketPCThoughts conducted an an interview with the President & CEO, Kirt Bailey. You can watch the interview video HERE!
