While the cellphone as voice centric device starts getting more in to media, GPS navigation. It is natural to see Garmin, maker of GPS centric devices starts thinking outside the 9-dots by getting to the cellphone territory.

Today, the GPS manufacturer took the wraps off its first Smartphone at a press event in New York: the Garmin Nuvi Phone. It’s a GSM/HSDPA mobile that runs on Garmin’s own operating system. The device features a 3.5-inch touch screen, Google Local Search integration, a Web browser, and e-mail capabilities.

Since I don’t see this device will be used as your main cellphone, it’s pretty dedicated to car navigation. The question remains will we see more wireless carrier making available special data plan with embedded ED-VO or HSDPA such the Amazon Kindle.
