HTC announced an updated version of the Advantage, the mothership of all Windows Mobile Smartphones. HTC change the model number from HTC-7500/7501 to HTC-7510

The major changes include a 16GB Flash to replace the 8GB spinning drive; the same magnetically “snappable” but slimmer keyboard with vibration force feedback; HTC TouchFLO support Opera Mobile 9.x and an updated VueFLO that recognizes device orientation and flips the screen to match. The other goodies are carried over from the previous model: Marvell PXA270 624MHz and Qualcomm MSM 6275 processors, 256MB ROM, 128MB RAM, tri-band HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, 5-inch VGA, and 3 MP camera. When it becomes available in March, the HTC Advantage will have the latest Windows Mobile Professional version namely 6.1. EngadgetMobile has just put up the photo gallery HERE! [Via ZDNet]

So, I wonder which carrier in the U.S. (if any) will pick this one up?

SolSie February 17, 2008

Hi Les!
T-Mobile will carry this!

Heading says ‘The New HTC Advantage 7150′ however it should be HTC Advantage X7510 not 7150… : )

SolSie February 18, 2008

Thanks lmf, corrected! :-)

can u use the htc advantage w/o the sim card installed, for instance can i surf the web thru a wifi connection without the sim card installed. thanks in advance.

weasel February 22, 2008

I’ve personally never used an advantage, but you can certainly surf the web via wi-fi on other phone-enabled devices. I currently use a dell axim x51v, and have recently purchased an at&t tilt for my wife. To avoid paying for the unlimited data package (about $45 – $60) I purchased a wireless router and installed at my home. As we alk know, sometines those hotspots can be few and far between not to mention as slow as dial-up. But if you are not a power user, this will provide a good connection anywhere in your home.

NOW THAT IT HAS A FLASH DRIVE, DOES THAT MEAN IT WON’T LOSE THE MICRODRIVE EVERY DAY, AND RENDER IT UNRECOVERABLE?????

THAT HAPPENNED TO ME WITH 2 SEPERATE UNITS THAT I HAD TO RETURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can we trade in our old htc advantage phones to get a new one

Henry April 23, 2008

Does this new keyboard have backlight or something like that so that I can type in the dark? It’s hard to type on the older version.

SolSie April 24, 2008

Henry, I think it does!

How is the screen on this thing outdoors? many so called “transflective” screens like this one are invisible in bright sunlight.

I spoke to onthegosolutions today and was informed by a salesperson that Qualcomm had settled their lawsuit and that the X7510 would be legal for sale in the US. Has anyone else heard that?

No backlit keyboard per numerous reviews.

Anyone knows when it is for sale in Taiwan?
thanks a lot for contacts there.

My company just purchased these devices for our mobile application. To answer a few of your questions, yes its in the us cause im in ca, there is no backlight on the keyboard, screen works great outdoors with brightness level set high, we use it with t-mobile, but can use other carriers.

Just got one, working on how to review. First thing i figured out :
To get Slingplayer working, you to disable the proxy that is automatically installed for MediaNet on ATT. It then can connect and plays great over 3G. – but when you do this – it causes your phone to go into No Service sometimes – so you have to put it back in after your done. The proxy is “wireless.cingular.com”

i have the device for the last 6 months
it has a lot of features and nice performance and speed, very nice keyboard but has no lights and insted it has a pulsation feeling when key is pressed, also camera is nice, speakers are clear and good gps performance
but it stucks more frequent than any pocket pc i ever used and you will loose your calls when it stucks and stop working and you do not know that it is stopped
