Better, Higher Resolution YouTube Download

The common methods to save YouTube videos result in a .flv file format, which offers only marginal video and audio quality.

With the recent introduction of better resolution video from YouTube, now you can download video in mp4 format.

GoogleOS Blog shares a new method using the Greasemonkey extension for Firefox with this script, after you install both, you will see the  Download as MP4 option

Right mouse click on this link and save as abcd.html; upon completion, remane the file to abcd.mp4.  On the desktop side, media players that can playback .mp4 format are VLC, MPlayer, iTunes, QuickTime. On Windows mobile TCPMP or CorePlayer can be used.
