Microsoft Mobile Strategy Speculation
Microsoft should know by now, the success of a mobile device is more than just technology and its capabilities. They have to learn how to create a much better user experience, marketing buzz and more importantly something that consumers don’t even know they need it.. In other word, they need to create the next “iDesire” device.
Some Windows Mobile MVP’s (Most Valuable Professionals – WM evangelists) around the country are gathering in Redmond, WA to learn Microsoft new directions in an event that used to be known as Mobius. Hopefully we can hear few more details upon their return.
Based on the recent acquisition of Danger, the maker of the young-crowd-favorite Sidekick, we learned (credit WMExperts) that Microsoft is creating a new consumer-focused division called “Premium Mobile Experiences” (PMX) to be headed up by Roz Ho, who formerly headed up the Mac Business Unit within Microsoft software group (the intention is obvious, can anyone guess?).
From a strategy standpoint, Microsoft seems to target both ends: From its own Windows Mobile OS, Exchange licensing to Apple iPhone for enterprise market to compete against Blackberry. And now, with the new PMX project, Microsoft is rolling its sleeves to go against the ever growing in popularity Apple iPhone in the consumer space.
I think Microsoft has all the ingredients it needed but how Microsoft executes the recipe is another story we can’t wait to see.
