Rescue Your Submerged Cellphone
Cellphone has become a companion device that we have on us throughout the day..and night. Evidently, dropping accidentally your cellphone in the water (no need further explanation..) could happen to any of us.
Here are few steps I learned from WikiHow and Friedbeef
- Get it out of the water as soon as possible.
- Do not turn it back on - Remove the battery Immediately
- If you have a GSM carrier, remove your SIM card.
- Dry your phone. Shake it out without dropping it, then use a towel or paper towel to gently remove as much of the remaining water as possible.
- Dismantle whatever you can
- Cover your phone in a bowl of rice - Rice will help absorb moisture
- Place your phone (inside the bowl of rice) in the fridge - This will help the drying process (but don’t put it in the freezer where it may damage your phone).
- ‘DO NOT EVER use a hair dryer on cool air or heat to dry out the phone, this will always force moisture further into the small circuits, connectors and surface mount components deep inside the phone and promote corrosion.
- Test your phone. After you have waited a day or so, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work, try plugging it into its charger without the battery, if this works, you need a new battery. If not, try taking your cell phone to an authorized dealer. Sometimes they can fix it. Don’t try to hide the fact that it has been wet. There are internal indicators that prove moisture.
