Apple is Eying Solar Panel

28 May, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News

We have seen the news before that a solar panel can be hidden behind the display to charge the device battery. But Apple seems to manage to deposit a patent on it first.

According to MacRumors.  Apple (yes, the company with sub par  environmental track record) could be the one leading the way to a sunny future of solar-powered gadgets.

Granted, not all of the company patents will make to the final products but it is a great way raise the bar for handset maker to mitigate the slow progressing battery development and move forward with the power hungry technologies such high speed Internet, larger, brighter VGA screen, etc..  [Via & Photo credit Earth2tech

Alot of patents is just as simple as keeping other people from doing anything even remotely similar to a product. I’m an engineer and when we’re writing a patent for application, we say how we are going to make it, then we say it COULD be done this way or this way and this portion of it COULD be done this way, etc. In making brake disks, we never really plan on making them a way that includes 20 different machining processes, but we write it in the patent that we could do it that way to keep other companies from sneaking through the back door and making the same product only manufacturing it in a different manner.
