New fring Version for Smoother Chat on iPod Touch
fring is a mobile app for Symbian, UIQ, Windows Mobile powered handhelds and iPhone/iPod Touch.
fring enables users to place VoIP calls especially for international calling alternative to their carrier’s expensive per-minute charges.
In addition of its VoIP, the app also offers a unified instant messaging. You can live text chat/voice chat with MSN Live Messenger, Skype, ICQ, Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo, as well as Twitter. The unified chatting is a bonus for Windows Mobile users who already have Skype client for VoIP. iPod Touch users also appreciate the chat due to the lack of microphone.
The iPhone users would need Jailbreak in order to use the app over WiFi only, unfortunately. We don’t expect Apple to include Fring on its software approved list when the firmware 2.0 releases, so if you want VoIP, don’t hold your breath.

On Friday, ffring announced a new pre-release version for the iPhone that also fixes a bug found when using the application on the iPod Touch. The new version has been tweaked for smoother, better chat on the iPod touch! More info on what you get and how to get fring for iPhone & iPodtouch at the fringcubator (fring lab). |
