Mozilla is encouraging users to  set the record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. The total number of unique downloads that take place on release day will be submitted for potential inclusion in the Guinness World Records. image

According to Paul Kim, head of marketing at Mozilla. "There is actually no record for the greatest amount of software downloaded in one day, so for 24 hours from the moment we push the bits live, that’s when the countdown starts," he said.

Mr Kim said Mozilla had no specific target for the number of downloads it would like to achieve on the day but racking up five million would be "awesome".

At 8pm PST (8hr after the official “delayed” launch) the live download counter is clocked at 2.8 millions at over 4200 per minutes or 250,000 downloads per hour.
