GPS on 3G iPhone Rumor

When Apple releases the next iPhone, one of the almost certain feature will be the real GPS built-in. It is understandable that Apple would take Google Map, which has been “off the chart popular” feature on the current iPhone, and improves upon with a real built-in GPS chip. The marriage could be used to boost other Location-Based Services made by Apple, Google or other third party apps .

According to GigaOm’s  sources, the contract has been nailed down by Broadcom, a relatively new entrant into the GPS market. The Irvine, Calif.-based chip company (home of SolSie World  HQ) had acquired Global Locate in July 2007 for $143 million in cash and $80 million in incentives. In the past such a deal would have gone to someone like SIRF. Imagine how cool it would be to have this thief-magnet mount on your dashboard.

While I am writing this, Kevin Rose from Digg just dropped a video stating the iPhone 3G will be released next week starting from $200. Both Kevin Rose and us have wrong prediction before. So take this with another grain of salt.  :-)

Any valid evidence to share, perhaps?
