Nokia Releases Diablo OS for N810
One of the biggest developments for the Nokia tablet this week was the announcement of the next version of the Maemo operating system codenamed Diablo.
For anyone who has any experience with flashing a new firmware to their PocketPc or Windows Mobile device, this is welcome news. The new upgrade allows for future upgrades to the OS to happen on the fly, without flashing the entire device (hard reset)
This can be done over a local WiFi connection much like an application download. Nokia released this late in the past week and while some applications will have to be fixed, it is a great step in the right direction, as you won’t have to cross your fingers and hope nothing goes wrong during the flash process.
Best of all, OS upgrades like this are free! Nokia is certainly headed in the right direction with its dedication to open source software. Recently, the company purchased Symbian, with the express intent of making its source available. Amazing corporate citizen!
