Plurk: Another microBlogging Tool to Share your life Stream

1 June, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News, WebApp

This morning the Blogosphere is rumblimg with Plurk, a new microBlogging service very similar to Twitter.

Plurk is an easy way to chronicle in 140 characters and share the things you do, the way you feel, and all the other things in between that make up your life, with the people close to you. It’s instant gratification, instant self-indulgence, instant celebrity, instantly YOU. Share your life stream, live your life….Plurk!

You can follow people and other people can follow you called “Fan”. A “fan” can be promoted to “Friend” when both you and that person follow to each other. You can organize “Friends” into “Cliques” or groups with several level of messaging viewing. Plurk offers an Ajax style horizontal timeline with different Plurk from you or from other friends. Another unique feature that Plurk has called Karma, which is point rewarded based on activities, etc…

While Twitter is way ahead in its popularity, with the recent string of outages due to poor scaling capability, this might be a good opening to alternatives. However, despite its enormous and instantaneous adoption,  microBlogging services are still struggling to find a sustainable business model. We hope Plurk will learn lesson from Twitter.
