Vista SideShow on Windows Mobile: Is It Still Relevant?

Vista’s SideShow is a feature that allows a laptop PC, while remaining in sleep mode, it can transmit information via Bluetooth to an additional display to show information such email, RSS, Calendar, Contact, etc..

We have seen some laptop vendors showing prototype of their laptop with a smaller display on the lid as shown on the right photo.

Since then, many other solutions sporadically popped up without much further adoption including using Windows Mobile device as a SideShow client to the Vista powered laptop.

Today the::unwired reports Microsoft has released the Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile Development Beta. While this feature might be useful for the stand alone PDA, and a dumb device such a remote control. The majority of Windows Mobile devices are now connected to Internet and mostly have push mail, PIM sync, etc.. why Microsoft is still touting this at this stage of the game? Can you help me to understand!

That’s a nice addon for Windows Mobile.
However, there are very few applications for it.
Among the gadgets available, the most usefulls are the Remote Windows Media Player and Office Powerpoint Remote.
The integration is reasonable but I think that there is a lot of work to do.
