In addition to our solutions to cure the SMS price gouging. Wired’s How-To Wiki points out that the AOL Instant Messenger app on the iPhone can send SMS by entering a full phone number (with a +1 for U.S. or another country code first) to your buddy list, you can send out standard text messages from an iPhone or iPod touch without incurring SMS cost.
This is another example showing that Wireless carriers have little if not at all, latitude over the way Apple authorizes the 3rd party apps in their catalog. I still have hope that Skype will make to the list some day!
