Blogosphere Resurrects the gPhone
Last year, all the ho hum about the open source phone OS project initiated by Google were dimmed down as quick as it started. Several rumors about a possible production device made by HTC will show up by year end with not much substance.
But today TechCrunch jump starts again the old flame with rumor of a nebulous statement made by Google co-founders Larry Page, Sergei Brin and CEO Eric Schmidt. The statement reportedly implies Google might now think of building that gPhone: “The trio of
Google execs also used the opportunity to talk about the inroads the company is making with its own branded mobile phone as a replacement for the iPhone.” and the San Francisco based Ammunition Design Group is chartered on the design of this gPhone.
We think frankly, it would take a miracle for any new phone to catch up with the iPhone momentum. But with substance or not, competition is always healthy for the industry and consumer. So let’s hope!
