SugarSync

SugarSync, a cross platform Web, desktop, mobile synchronization solution that we covered many times on SolSie.com.

imageThis morning SugarSync announced a new great feature that gives its subscribers the ability to send files of any size from their computer or mobile phone or the Web.  This feature is a very welcome enhancement for user on the go.

This feature is similar to services like Pando and YouSendIt  However, there are two key differences:

  • The service is part of the overall SugarSync offering and does not cost anything extra.
  • You can send/share files of any size remotely from the Web or a mobile phone.  Competing services require you to be at your computer to send large files, which is a significant hindrance.

If you use SugarSync, you will notice this new feature in the interface.

Feature Summary
Feature summary:

Send any file from SugarSync’s desktop, web or mobile applications, regardless of the size of the file or number of recipients. Recipients receive a link in an email they can use to access the file for 21 days. Anyone can receive a file, but recipients who use SugarSync can choose to have the files synced across all their computers automatically, stored only their web archive to preserve local disk space, or download it only to the machine they’re on.

It’s an easy way to share home videos with friends, family, and share large presentations or graphic-intensive documents with co-workers. Any number of files can be shared at once. The functionality is free as part of any SugarSync subscription.

How it’s different from others in the large-file-sending space

The key for SugarSync users is that all your files are already backed up online, so there are no extra steps required to send them. It’s integrated with the mobile web browser so you can send any size file from your phone regardless of whether your computer is turned on. Prevents emails from bouncing back due to file size constraints and eliminates manual uploading to FTP sites.

Summary:
  • Send any size file from anywhere – SugarSync desktop manager, website or phone
  • Mobile phone file sharing adds new level of remote PC/Mac control that doesn’t exist in other solutions
  • Ideal for sharing large home video files, large presentations
  • Overcomes file-size limitations of email programs
  • Faster & more efficient than manual FTP uploads
  • Recipients can sync files to all their machines in a single click, from anywhere
  • Integrated with existing backup service, so no need to upload files separately

FYI Sugarsync:

You get 5GB of space with the FREE version, but now there is no restriction to the number of computers you can sync/backup (from 2).

It gives you the ability to upload and sync any folder on your computer.

It is the only service that offers such a broad device and OS support with apps for iPhone/iPad, Android, Blackberry, Symbian and WinMo.

On the Free version the upload/download is faster than when reviewed :)

Also if you use the below referral code you get 500MB extra on top of the Free 5GB or 10GB extra on any of the paid-for services!

Hope it helps someone.
