The Shape of Things to Come: Spherical Surface
After the surface computing, Microsoft unveils the “Sphere”, which is a multi-touch display that looks like a giant ball. We shared with you a glimpse last April in an unrelated Microsoft product demo.
"The basic design is really quite simple," Microsoft researcher Andy Wilson said in an interview, “Like the tabletop Surface computer introduced last year, Sphere uses a combination of infrared cameras for input and a projector for output to create a multi-touch computer. "The camera and the projector share the same optical axis by virtue of mirrors."
While the Microsoft surface allows user to place object on the top for some interaction such drag & drop data in to it. The sphere can not do that, however there are many potentials application exploitation in the area of mapping, gaming.
