Asus Eee Box Has a Competitor: The $189 Shuttle X27

image The ever shrinking PC Shuttle just told Crave that the Shuttle X27 desktop will start at $189 and everybody can indulge one in mid-September.

The new Intel-Atom powered PC will go head-a-head with the $350 Eee Box from Asus. Granted the Shuttle comes with Linux and the Asus is Windows/XP based.

Both are targeting the new class of PC called Nettop (and its portable counterpart called Netbook). These machines will rely on the cloud computing, meaning your data, apps are supposed to be on the Web.

The computer uses just 23 watts of power in idle mode, and 36 watts while in use, which will be perfect for your eco-friendly office.

However with the proliferation of streaming multimedia, Podcast, DVR, Settop box, Video on demand. With only 23 decibels imperceptible background noise and it’s measuring approximately 10 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 2.75 inches tall., I would see a good chunk of these devices will find place next to your living room TV.
