High-end EeePC Drops EeePC Branding

image The Asus EeePC embodies the low-end sub-notebook class. Since this class is getting crowded with more players and the profit margin is no longer attractive, Asus is expanding to a higher end market while still using this small popular form factor, which has been very well received.

The high-end model S101 will leave the EeePC name behind to better position with Macbook Air class as Toyota did when it offered the Lexus line.

Around September timeframe, the S101 will be released in 2 models carrying 32GB or 64GB SSD instead of spinning hard drive. The unit is measured 16-21mm thick (the Apple Macbook Air is merely 2mm thinner at the thickest side). The S101 sports a 10.2”  LED backlit  display.

The 2 S101 models will be priced $699 and $899 depending on the SSD sizes. We are not sure if the brown color will be an exclusivity for the S101 or not.
