Microsoft and Nokia Possible Partnership
Remember at last CTIA, Microsoft Communications Business International Marketing Director John Starkweather confirmed with iTWire that “talks between Microsoft and Nokia were indeed occurring to discuss potential synergies between Microsoft Mobile Division and Nokia. Both companies would love to see the day where those synergies would extend completely with Windows Mobile.”
We were hoping that Microsoft would’ve announced Windows Mobile on Sony Ericsson and Nokia hardware. But actually only haft of that speculation was true. Sony Ericsson will indeed carry WM in its Xperia but WM on Nokia hardware did not happen.
Since then we believe Microsoft is still aggressively pursuing the world largest phone maker Nokia and we have seen few good results on Silverlight adoption, Hotmail support, etc…
The latest news is Nokia might adopt the Zune marketplace support on its device. This partnership would allow both company to better compete with the ever-growing iPhone/iTunes market dominance.
This combination of the world largest phone maker and the ready Zune marketplace could be a good bet for future strategy. It is inconceivable the approach will stir any concerns at Apple, but any percent market share taken away from Apple are still a good thing for Nokia and Microsoft.
