Dell Mini 9: "We didn’t build a small PC, we built an ultramobile device"
"We didn’t build a small PC, we built an ultramobile device," said John Thode, vice president of small-screen consumer devices for Dell when he introduces the new Netbook “Mini 9”. "It does a lot of PC functions, but its intent was not to emulate a PC in every aspect."
Dell calls this “Mini 9” as an oversize Blackberry or iPhone–a mobile device that you use simply to access the Web for quick browsing, send e-mail, make some VoIP calls and use the Cloud computing, (which is the term that Dell unsuccessfully tried to patent).
The Mini 9 version will be priced at $349 for the 4GB SSD, Ubuntu Linux model, and the fully loaded model equipped with 16GB SSD, Windows XP, Web cam, etc. goes for $449. It is too bad that vendors such Dell keep the hi-end unit overpriced just to avoid cannibalizing their low-end laptop.
