First Satellite Phone Powered by Windows Mobile

image Secret agents, Terrorists, Drug Dealers, Explorator, cross ocean sailors, etc.. soon will have new toy. Finland based EB (Elektrobit Corp) and Reston, Virginia based TerreStar will bring the first Satellite smartphone powered by Windows Mobile OS (as reference design for now).

But when James Bond gets back to civilization world, he can easily switch seamlessly  the device to quad-band GSM and tri-band WCDMA/HSPA.

The satellite-terrestrial communications handset has both a touch-screen as well as a full QWERTY keyboard operated with the thumbs. For its terrestrial cellular connections the satellite/terrestrial communications handset uses Infineon’s chipset, and for the satellite connection it uses technology from Hughes Network Systems (Germantown, Md.).

The strong suite of this device is  fully IP-based satellite capability using high speed packet data on 2.2Ghz satellite band with GMR-3G. TerreStar expects voice charges to run a very comtetitive rate at below $1.00 per minute.
