Microsoft Mobile Media Beta Leaked
With the recent disappointing announcement of the Windows Mobile 7 delay, don’t think that Microsoft is sleeping. They are building infrastructure for the new OS, essentially the “meshing” your devices for universal access.
The latest tool that I have been testing for few weeks is the Mobile Media Beta (works on IE only for PC side interface). MM essentially allows you to quickly and easily access your personal content – pictures, music, and videos – on your personal computer from your mobile phone.
You cannot directly download the content from your PC to your mobile phone. The content you access from your PC is streamed to your phone in real-time. Pictures are streamed as a slideshow, while music and video are streamed to your phone’s Media Player. For pictures, individual small files are saved locally in a temporary storage area (similar to your browser) and you can also save individual small images to the local phone memory. Music and video streams cannot be saved to the phone and are not cached.
With offline photo storage, your photos are also store in the cloud so you can access them from the mobile phone even your home PC is off.
You can have as many as you want on the PC side but only 1 phone in the “mesh ring”
A nice touch here, is if you have a Windows Mobile device, you can take pictures and they will be automatically and transparently sent pictures to your PC.
To use Mobile Media, you’ll need to download and install client applications on both your PC and Mobile phone. Download them HERE! View the Desktop side HERE!

hi, is this service available only in the us for the time being? i have tried to register with my irish phone number and it doesn’t allow me to do that saying that my pre-provisional info in nowhere to be found…
I get the same thing when trying to register with a Canadian cell number, also with a US (grandcentral) number.
Any one care to enlighten us?
thanks.
Hey how can I join in to this service ? Seems interesting I need to test this . Any test accounts ? Any buddies ? I am in the US . Can I use it ?
Is the server not working or something? I am unable to go to the site from any computer home or work…
Microsoft seems to take it down.
Any updates on this? The website still doesn’t seem to be working.
You might want to check out Live Mesh Mobile
SolSie, Thanks for the reply. I’ve been using Live Mesh for a while now and did get the Windows Mobile client when it came out. It’s great for synchronizing files, but I was intrigued by your Mobile Media post because of the potential to stream content from a home Media Center without having to have all the files reside on a mobile device.
I also use Orb, which is great. My greatest hope with Mobile Media would be if it allowed you to stream recorded TV from Media Center to a phone. Orb can’t do anything with my CableCard recordings, so it would be awesome if Microsoft had their own solution that would work out the DRM issues.
I guess I’ll keep dreaming for now.
