Complete Your iPhone Exchange/ActiveSync Solution with TaskData

1 October, 2008 Posted by SolSie As News, Software, iPhone (26) Comment

image As you know, the new iPhone 2.0 software upgrade has given ActiveSync synchronization capabilities with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange server environments for e-mail, calendars, and contacts. But Apple just left out another important PIM application, Task management.
Now with TaskData you can finally complete your Outlook experience on your iPhone by working with your Tasks! That’s right, easily add/edit/delete tasks that will synchronize wirelessly over-the-air to your corporate network and Microsoft Outlook!
No additional software is required. No additional monthly or yearly fees! You should be up and running within minutes of downloading the application and configuring your Microsoft Exchange (OWA) settings from the iPhone/TaskData settings applet.

Available in Apple App store HERE!

You should report to Apple to double check. They should have all the contact information from the vendor.

James, sorry to hear your frustrations. Please e-mail me at phillip@zedalis.com and I will help.

Thanks,

I bought an Iphone with the 2.1 update for my wife and also I bought at Apple Store an App TaskDta for the synchronization of the tasks pf the Exchange. I Installed and configured the TaskData but even there are several tasks in Exchange Server it returns the information thar no task was located.

Also when entering a task through of the TaskData it can not save it. Somebody could you help me?

Page for support the product does not exist and contact for e-mail does not answer.

I purchased TaskData at the end of November 2008 (version 1.2). It works! I’m so glad to finally have this functionality.

All the information I needed to help configure my iPhone with my exchange server’s task facility is available on the developer’s website. I have no idea why James, Eloy and Luc are having trouble.

Its hard to believe that this is the only exchange server task syncing app available on the App Store. There must be a lot of people who want to sync their exchange server tasks to their iPhone. There are dozens of unit conversion apps available, for example – maybe they’re easy to write whereas Exchange Task Sync is complicated?

Has TaskData 1.2 been available since August? How long has the developer’s message about a newer version having been submitted to Apple been included in the product description in the App Store? These references are tantalizing: a new UI, tabs for Active and Completed tasks, Notes sync!!!

Has the developer’s update been rejected by Apple? Has development ceased? Since only discovered and purchased the app last week, I’ve held off on emailing the dev. If in a moment of weakness I try to contact him I’ll do my best to post back here with an update. This app deserves attention – and not only because its unique!

Kind regards

I just bought the app too and it does not work. I filed a bug report and got a mail back saying they will get back to me.

I bought taskdata last week. When I found it didn’t work I sent a mail to report it. They answered me that the problem was I was running exchange 2007. That isn’t the case. Still waiting for a second answer.

Still no reaction, even after sending them a crash report extracted from the iPhone…

Hi Luc!

I’m sorry I haven’t been back here since I originally posted; since then the LateNightRobots website and Zedalis.com have been updated – and the useful setup info is not on the new site! D’oh!

The new site refers to a FAQ page but theres no FAQ link ir page that i can find.

With the 2.1 update (from 2.0), I lost the ability to connect to my exchange server. I’ve contacted support; when they reply I’ll drop back here and post an update.

Fingers crossed!

I have had enough of their promises to support Exchange 2007. I bought it in anticipation of support … mainly because in an email conversation I was told at the time it would be in the next version … it came out and no support. So I emailed them about it and was told that release was a bug fix release and that 07 support would be in the next version. Now that is out and it claims to support it.
As expected it will not sync. I have tried every combination of server addresses and username possibilities and nothing makes it to the phone and anything I enter on the phone goes away when I sync.
I have emailed them once again and do not expect to hear from them for a few days.
If this is not resolved in a day or so I am going to ask Apple for my money back.

Peter Norman January 18, 2009

Hi again Luc!

I heard back from LateNightRobot’s Phillip Zedalis on 13 January 2009; ISA Server is apparently causing some connectivity issues and wow I can understand THAT based on my own experience with ISA 2006.

Anyway, I provided a test account and some other details at his request. No word on a solution yet but its only been 3 or 4 days.

The FAQ section of their website is now online at:
http://www.latenightrobots.com/taskdata/taskdata_faq.html

However, the useful info I referred to in my 2 Dec 2008 post above is NOT available. (suggestions on using username_domain.com rather than username@domain.com, is the only tidbit I can remember)

I’ll report back when I have new information.

I too am having problems, the app does not work. All OWA info is correct as I sync email, cal and contacts fine.
Install and setup seem simp,e enough but I’m hoping I’m missing something and it’s not going to a case where the $12.99 app does not work.
One question I have is there are no setup instructions to be found. I understand what the Exchange Mailbox Alias is, but I have not seen of one for Tasks or Notes. Can someone clify what the app is looking for in the setup?

Regards,
Bill F.

Jeff Wood January 31, 2009

I would set a task to complain about how crap this app is, but there’d be no point, because the task would never make it to my desktop or phone because this piece of shite does not work.

I purchased taskData a few days ago, and guess what? It doesn’t work for me either!!!
I was informed by the app author that I have to buy an “inexpensive” certificate from VeriSign or godaddy, which costs something like 26 USD / year (more than twice the price of taskData)
They say at the apple app store the following: “No additional software is required. No additional monthly or yearly fees! You should be up and running within minutes of downloading…..” really?

Albe March 19, 2009

Hello,
there is a new app to synchronize your Exchange server tasks and notes with your iPhone name Tasks’n Notes and you can find it here :

This is the support link :

I found the fix for Ex07 … WooHoo … then I killed my iPhone. :(

Anyhow … I had done everything with all combinations of username / domain / passwords / aliases … created a test account for use by support … considered punching new holes in my firewall … everything! Well after accussations from latenightrobot support I discovered something … for Ex07 TaskData does not use OWA!!!! It uses EWS … as soon as I published EWS to the public side of the IIS web site … Success!!!
Now that I have the app working on whats left of my iPhone … I don’t know how impressed I am yet. If they ever get categories to work then it will be a wonderful app.
If anyone needs more info shoot me an email and I will outline the steps to publish the EWS.

John March 22, 2009

I’ve bought iExchange, this application sync Tasks and Notes from my server Exchange 2007. It works great.

Aaron March 24, 2009

Rodney, Can you please let us know what combination you used for the username and what you put in for the various aliases. I am unable to get your e-mail address – sorry!
Cheers,
Aaron.

Aaron March 24, 2009

Hmmm, I seem to be going backwards! I’ve tried some different settings and now the app says it’s syncing – but then just shuts down. Not impressed so far. The phrase “…up and running in minutes…” sounds like misleading advertising to me!

Rodney Rees May 13, 2009

Been busy. I left aliases empty. For the server name I put my public DNS name.

Aaron – mine started doing that as well.

Now that the new version is out it doesn’t sync or crash any longer … just sits there looking stupid. Personally … I am done with this pile of cr@p … the support sux as bad as the app. I am going to email apple and see if I can get my money back and if not I will put a negative feedback so that maybe other users won’t fall victim to this somewhat pricey failure.

Rodney Rees May 13, 2009

For S&G I decided to check my TaskData settings … it appears that after the update it wipes out the settings.
All settings have been re-entered and initial sync has been done … it seems to work now.
Category support is rather crude right now. It only knows the categories that you already have flagged.
Notes are screwed … ironically the only note that has survived is the one that I entered before the app died before the update … all other notes that I had in my Ex07 account are either gone or now empty.
It’s a security feature not a bug. ;)

Bartley Doyle June 5, 2009

looking to see if I can sync my Todo’s as well. I use the “flag” alot on emails etc. to follow up on.

LuckyBstrd November 5, 2009

I’ve purchased the IMexchange for my new iphone and got it connected to my work exchange server. You can try its trial version: IMlite and check the connection.
