We reported sometime ago WebKit, an open source web browser engine. WebKit is also the name of the Mac OS X system framework version of the engine that’s used by Safari, Dashboard, Mail, and many other OS X applications. WebKit’s HTML and JavaScript code began as a branch of the KHTML and KJS libraries from KDE.

imageLast August, the project came to fruition by Torchmobile with the Beta 1 release. After 3 months the company released the Beta 2 of their Iris for Windows Mobile that uses Webkit rendering engine.  The focuses are on:

  • Performance
  • Smaller footprint – we’re 10% smaller than beta 1!
  • User interaction improvement
  • Stability
  • Page rendering improvement
