New IE6 Mobile Emulator Available
At Tech-Ed EMEA, Microsoft announced the emulator for Internet Explorer Mobile 6, which will be supposedly the next browser for Windows Mobile 6.5 or even WM7.
Don’t confuse with IE6 on the desktop side (I am wondering about the naming scheme, why not call the next WM, WM/XP while you are at it?).
Anyway, the new browser is very capable and ready to take on Opera, Safari or Fenney, etc..(according to MS anyway)
You can download the emulator here and give it a try and tell us what you think.
Some of the cool features available with Internet Explorer Mobile 6 are:
- Improved fidelity (support for full fidelity desktop rendering)
- Layout fixes to accommodate a mobile screen (text wrap)
- Enhanced Script and AJAX support (Jscript v5.7 from Internet Explorer
- Improved multimedia experience (Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 for Adobe Flash content)
- Deeper integration with search
- Enhanced cursor navigation model
- Touch and gesture support – pan support
- Multiple zoom levels
- Easy switching between mobile / desktop versions of sites by specifying UA strings
Arstechnica just posted their hands-on review, you might want to read it first before downloading the Emulator.
