OrbLive Delivers All Your Media – Including Live TV to the iPhone/touch

Orb Networks today announced that OrbLive 2.0, the media application for the Apple iPhone 3G/iPod touch, is now available in the iPhone’s App Store.  OrbLive enables iPhone/touch owners to enjoy any media that they can experience on their home PC — music, videos, photos, webcams, even live TV — on these popular mobile devices any time they have a network connection.  OrbLive is available in the App Store in two versions — a free trial and a $9.99 download.

"The iPod touch and the iPhone are cutting-edge mobile devices, but as media players, they were designed to be used with iTunes, so unfortunately users are shut out of any live media like TV, radio, or webcams," said Joe Costello, CEO of Orb.  "Prior to OrbLive, users were forced to download their selections from their computer or remember to sync before they left the house. With OrbLive on your iPhone or touch, all your media is at your fingertips."

OrbLive utilizes the powerful networking capabilities of the iPhone and touch, transforming them into far more powerful media players.  OrbLive enables you to enjoy your entire media collection, not just the limited media library stored on the device.  With OrbLive, you use the network to connect and beam anything from your media collection, wherever you are.  Don’t carry it with you.  Connect.

OrbLive works over all available networks.  On the iPod touch you can connect over WIFI, so you can enjoy your music, videos, or live TV at home, work, or any WIFI hotspot.  On the iPhone, you can connect via high speed WIFI, or over 2G or 3G wireless connections, making it easy for you to enjoy all your media almost anywhere.

Originally released in May, 2008 before Apple launched the App Store, OrbLive v1 required users to jailbreak their phones.  Although OrbLive was critically acclaimed as the first media player for live content on the iPhone, many people didn’t want to jailbreak their device.  In spite of it all, 300,000 iPhone users downloaded the earlier version of OrbLive.  As soon as Apple released the SDK, customers began clamoring for a version that could work on the new iPhone 3G and be sold through the App Store.
Now there are two versions of OrbLive available in the App Store.  For $9.99, OrbLive 2.0 will play any of the media from your PC* — music, movies/videos, photos, webcams, even live TV if you have a tuner card — on your iPhone or iPod touch.  There are no other service or subscription fees required.  OrbLive Free has all the functionality of the full version, but limits your media selection to 3 randomly chosen titles of each media type.

To find OrbLive in the App Store, click the App Store icon on your iPhone/touch and search for Orb.  Or go the App Store tab in iTunes and search for Orb.  While you’re there, go to http://orb.com/en/download_orb and download the free Orb application for your PC (you must have this in order to enjoy OrbLive on your iPhone/touch).
