Zune Pass: A Sweeter Deal

Not as sleek as iPod/iTunes, but Zune offers something that iPod users can not have. The Zune Pass, a $15 monthly subscription service that allows user to sample unlimited tunes, of course as long as you pay, the tunes are available but when you stop, they will be all gone.

imageAlong with the not so popular offering Zune hardware/Software, the Zune Pass does not get much adoption neither. So to give it a boost, Microsoft has decided to give 10 free songs a month for subscriber to keep for life and  unlimited streaming for up to 3 PCs and 3 Zunes.

Ten songs – that equates to about a CD’s worth of music every month, which is probably close to the price for DRM-free tunes.

Getting together an offer like this was no easy feat. Agreements between Microsoft and the record labels EMI, Song BMG, Universal Music, and Warner Music, had to first be signed and put into place along with agreements with independent distributors of digital music like INgrooves, Independent Online Distribution Alliance and The Orchard.

Of course, don’t forget if you are not a fan of subscription model, the majority of the music in the Zune Marketplace is DRM-free?
