Ditch Windows Media Player 11 for Zune 3.0 Software

Along with new Zune hardware, Microsoft  also released a new version of Zune PC software 3.0 and a new Zune firmware 3.0. I told you Zune software 2.5 was already good enough to ditch your Windows Media Player, the Zune 3.0 is even better in may aspects. (even Mossberg likes it and ArsTechnica approved it.)

Zune 3.0 features

imageKey new features in Zune 3.0 include:

  • Mixview Pandora-like music discovery music. During playback, switching to Mixview to see animated transition  to  a visual map of artists related to song you are playing,
  • Channels is already made playlists based on genre of music filled with popular tracks in a given style of music.
  • Picks is smart recommendation based on your music selection. This feature works best when you subscribed to Zune Pass, a all-you-can-eat music subscription

Key feature in Zune 2.5 (included to 3.0)

  • H.264 support added
  • Audio/Video Podcast aggregator/ play back (e.g.YouTube)
  • Music Video
  • SmartPlaylist (AutoPlaylist)
  • Advanced tag editing for correcting metadata on your tracks, a seemingly improved ability to identify tracks in compilation albums, and smart playlisting (this last feature still needs to re-add mood-based playlists, but most people won’t care).
  • Live Messenger
  • Zune Market Place carries NBC programs that aren’t available from iTunes,

Does it sync with Windows Mobile?

SolSie September 22, 2008

It does not, but soon you can sync with Microsoft upcoming Mobile Media feature. For the time being EasySync http://www.easy-sync.info/
and MobSync are good alternative to sync WM storage card with your PC

I’m curious as to see how microsoft does WMP 12… With all the nice Vis. features that zune has.

Can I transfer all the music I have on Windows Media Player to the new Zune program or do I have to re-rip everything?

SolSie December 5, 2008

Sure, you can

SolSie Thanks for commenting.
I’m not very computer savy. How difficult is it to do the transfer?
Is it a function within Zune 3.0?
Will all my kid’s mp3 players sinc with it?
I really hope you don’t mind all the questions…
I don’t know where else to turn for advise.

Thanks again!

There is no requirement for migration, just a matter if setting Zune to use the existing directory where your contents are located.

I just bought a zune today and find the software clunky. On my old mp3 player, I could easily put ripped videos on it. Is that even possible with the Zune? I can watch them on Media player.

I also have a problem trying to use WMP 11 to sync with Zune. And I prefer to use Windows Media Player 11. It won’t even recognize my Zune.
