Today, Sanoodi announces a new release of SMap – its free route recording and sharing application.  SMap is the way to record your activities as you do them. It is free to download and use and it works with BlackBerry (including the Storm), Nokia S60, iPhone and Windows Mobile equipped mobile phones and PDAs.

If you have a GPS mobile or PDA, or an external GPS receiver with Bluetooth, you can use SMap to record your routes and upload them to Sanoodi. Your progress can even be recorded in real-time if you have a good mobile signal along the course of the route.

The company is really excited about this news; here’s its press release in full:

Based in North Wales, UK, Sanoodi (http://www.sanoodi.com/) is a popular geo-social website that lets its community record, upload and share outdoor activities on the web, whether they are running, hiking, kayaking, riding a bicycle or walking the dog. Sanoodi has announced the launch of SMap, an integrated and free route recording application for the BlackBerry Storm.

SMap (http://www.sanoodi.com/gomobile/) has been developed to work in conjunction with the new Sanoodi website. The BlackBerry Storm release includes a live Twitter feed and a number of enhancements to improve the accuracy of what is being recorded and the ability to export routes as GPX or KML files. Unlike its competition, SMap can be used to record routes online (connected to the Internet) and offline, broadening its appeal and range of locations where it can be used. Sanoodi has developed a specific application for each mobile platform and SMap is now available on Apple iPhone 3G, Windows Mobile phones and PDA’s. An Android version of SMap is due for release in Q1 2009.

"The release of the BlackBerry Storm version with added Twitter to our range of free applications for mobile devices allows our community to share their adventures direct from their phone just about anywhere in the world," said Paul Sandham, COO of Sanoodi.

In addition to the new Twitterfied version of SMap, and by user demand, the Sanoodi website will this week add a number of new social features. Groups will give Sanoodi users the ability to create their own groups and invite friends to join, add and share their routes.

"With Sanoodi and SMap we see the opportunity to go well beyond building a simple web-based community," says Sanoodi CTO Rhys Jones. "Extending SMap to feed other popular social sites and LBS applications like Twitter, Facebook and Locly are fundamental to the growth of our community in 2009”
